Smiths Bakery

The bakers of Bakersfield. It's almost worth a trip to Bakersfield for their thumbprint cookies, I have yet to find a cookie comparable to them. The smiley face cookies, or any of their frosted cookies are also a real treat. Their chocolate cake is also on of the best I've ever had. If you don't want to go to their Union Ave. location, several convenience store carry the cookies, the one that comes to mind is the AM PM store by the Marketplace on Ming.

YUM!! My favorite cookies and donuts. I take my kids there for a special treat or after the doctor if they've had a shot. I always look for the one with the most icing. The old Smith's Grocery store that was in Porterville had a Smith's bakery too. I was so excited to see the foot donut I loved in my childhood!

This is THE BEST BAKERY!!! This was definitely my down fall during my pregnancy (along Dewars)!!!! :) The sugar cookies that were in fun shapes used to be my favorite, until I discovered the Thumbprint cookies!!! And now when Josh and I are in Bakersfield it is top of the list to make it there to get those cookies as well as the Maple Bars!!!! I never used to be a maple bar fan, but these are unbelieveale!!! If you don't get there early - they will be gone. One time when I went to get some, Josh sent me in and said, "Just look to see if there are any left, but don't ask, they will laugh at you!" :)

I grew up in Porterville. My husband and I lived in Bakersfield for about three years before moving up here. My husband graduated from CSUB, so did his dad, and his mom. We still have friends and family there, but don't get back often enough for the cookies! I had to have my Mother in law send some up for a Valentines day gift for my husband, he was quite impressed.

I CAN'T believe that you know about Smith's...I grew up in Bakersfield and its one of our all time favorite places...Why isn't there something like this in Roseville? My wife is going to die when she sees you submitted this before she did... :-)...ha! Great submission Becky! ~~Josh
