Exercise During Pregancy

Remember that blissful moment when you peed on the stick and realized life was growing inside of you? And then about four months in, after all of your concerns about the baby’s health and the viability of the pregnancy were laid to rest, the tiny little thought occurred to you, ‘holy crap I hope I can get my pre-pregnancy body back!’ Well, guess what? You’re not alone.

Instructions

  1. What worked for me might not necessarily work for everyone, and certainly all women should work with their doctors to come up with the right plan. But here was my plan:

    During the first seven months of both pregnancies:

    1. I continued running about 3X per week for about 3 miles each time.

    2. I did prenatal yoga 5X per week for one hour sessions. When I couldn’t make it to the gym yoga class, I used a DVD and did it at home.

    During my last two months of both pregnancies:

    1. I used the PRECOR elliptical fitness trainer at my local gym 3X per week while I watched the Today show in the morning. I love this machine because it really works your lower body muscles while minimizing impact on joints.

    2. I took spinning classes at my gym 2X per week.

    I used the POLAR heart monitor during all cardio exercises to make sure I stayed within the optimally safe range my doctor set for me.
